AN AFRICAN TRIBAL HANDMADE SCRAP METAL MOUNTED WOODEN LAMELLOPHONE, POSSIBLY NIGERIA OR THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the rectangular nailed wood hollow box form body centering flat sides pierced for sound with seven keys of flat metal strips secured by metal wire and spliced wood, beneath a pitch mounted chain link necklace handle. Height: 8 3/4" Width: 4 1/4" Depth: 1 1/4" Note: Also known as a thumb piano, Casagi, Lekembe or Sanza in various regions of Africa. Marie Louise Bastin sites similar musical instruments from the Angola area and calls them Lungandu.
