Folded letter of George Leonard, Member of Congress, to William Baylies of Dighton Massachusetts dated at Philadelphia Feb. 11, 1797 which begins with debates on purchasing large tracts of land in Georgia having Live Oak to build ships and ends with Leonard expressing his excitement to see the introduction the new President and the stepping down of Gen’l Washington to being a private citizen. Two pages with integral address panel handwritten FREE and with an early postmark. Fine, measures 7.5 x 12”.
