Description
**Originally Listed At $200**
Europe, France, dated 1878 CE. A nicely preserved example of a "Gras" sword bayonet, of the last type to be produced by the French. The bayonet has a solid brass pommel with a latching mechanism and a wooden grip. The crossguard is steel, with one side a muzzle ring, the other curved downward to form a blade-breaker quillon. The steel blade is marked along its wide upper edge with, "Manufactured at the Armory at Chatellerault, November 1876" in French. Small marks on the guard may indicate that the blade was used by a colonial soldier, probably in Africa based on where the French were at war during this time period. Size: 3.95" W x 26" H (10 cm x 66 cm)
Provenance: private Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
