Roman, early Imperial Period, ca. 1st century CE. A charming miniature unguentarium, free-blown from near-opaque green glass with a slightly concave base and smooth pontil scar, a globular body with a rounded shoulder, a squat neck, and a thick rim. Thick earthen deposits cover most of the exterior, though faint areas of silvery and rainbow-hued iridescence imbue the vessel with a burst of color. Size: 1.25" W x 1.75" H (3.2 cm x 4.4 cm).
Provenance: private Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA collection, purchased in Jerusalem in 2012

Condition
Small chips to rim and body, and minor abrasions, otherwise intact and very good. A smooth pontil scar indicates the vessel was free-blown and that it was intentionally smoothed away or wore away naturally. Light earthen deposits as well as faint silver and rainbow iridescence throughout.
