East Asia, China, Han Dynasty, ca. 206 BCE to 220 CE. An adorable mold-made ceramic dog, designed to be placed into a tomb. He stands on large, joined paws, with sturdy legs that suggest musculature. He stands at attention, with a short tail that lays straight along his back and a powerful neck. His pointed ears stand up and his snout points straight out in front him. He would have once been painted to have eyes and other details like a collar. He is the picture of watchfulness and companionship, a faithful dog ready to guard his master's tomb! Size: 7.2" W x 5.4" H (18.3 cm x 13.7 cm)

Condition
Intact. However, there is an unrepaired hairline fissure along the mold line at the front of the dog which appears to be a result of firing. Small chips and nicks from surface commensurate with age. Light deposits on surface.
