Sand Pencil. New Haven: Petrie & Lewis (P&L), ca. 1915. Toy devised by magic trick manufacturing firm P&L for writing with colored sand. Scarce original box with litho label includes three pencils (two wooden, one metal), advertisements, chrome yellow sand from R.J. Waddell & Co., and (2) gummed lithographic Mysto labels for the trick. Box measures 12 x 6 x 2”. Box is slightly soiled with chipping to the edges of box lid; one wooden pencil lacks cap; labels show creasing. Overall good.
