A BLUE-PAINTED OPAQUE WHITE-GLAZED POTTERY DISH
PROPERTY FROM THE STEPHEN KEYNES COLLECTION
Iraq, 9th century
Of typical circular shape, resting on three ball-shaped feet, possibly a later addition, with a flat wide rim, the centre decorated with a pseudo-Kufic calligraphic inscription in cobalt blue painted on the opaque white tin-based glaze, the inscription possibly stating Mimma Amal-e 'Ali (the work of 'Ali), 31cm diam.
Provenance: Stephen Keynes (1927 – 2017), acquired at Spink & Son and other London dealers in the 1960's.
