1857-58 important baseball content within the bound collection of 'Spirit of the Times' newspapers. The Spirit of the Times: A Chronicle of the Turf, Agriculture, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage was an American weekly newspaper published in New York City. Baseball breakdown as follows is; baseball coverage or formation of a team (1), Baseball Rules of Play (1), rosters (2) and Results (3) with some of the rosters/results a part of the same entry. Saturday February 14, 1857 to January 23, 1858. In the 1850's Spirit covered angling, baseball, cricket, foot racing, fox hunting, horse racing, rowing and yachting with boxing coverage coming in the late 1850's. This bound collection includes early baseball rules, rosters and results. The bound collection measures 18.5 x 13 x 1.75 inches and contains 622 pages plus one index page. Interior pages have some light creases, fold lines and mostly minor foxing. Overall pages are G-VG/VG. Condition report is provided as a courtesy and is only an opinion.
