A mid-20th century Iranian 875 standard silver sahan, Isfahan circa 1960 by Bagher, Hossein and Nasrollah Paravaresh
Of compressed oval form, raised on a spreading oval foot. The detachable lid with centrally domed section terminating in a pointed baluster finial. The body and lid with chased and engraved ghalam zani decoration of a continuous frieze depicting figures serving food and libations against townscapes and trees. The body with a band of chased arabesques underneath figural scene and the lid edged with a band of trailing scrolls against a matted ground. Lacquered. Marked underneath base with standard mark and Arabic character mark. The lid unmarked.
Length – 18 cm / 7 inches
Bagher Parvaresh, born circa 1910, master 1928, worked at West Char Bagh Street then in 1937 moved to a larger workshop and storefront on East Char Bagh. Working there until his death in 1978. He founded Ishfahan’s Goldsmiths and Silversmith Guild in 1954. He is the patriarch on the famous Paravaresh line of silversmiths.
