Description
The cup of deep rounded form with slightly flared opening. The lip carved with a Greek key border. On a short spreading foot, the sides carved and pierced with chilong handles. The jade a celadon color with natural inclusions, and it appears to have a 2 or 3 character mark on the bottom. 3 & 3/8" Dia. For a nearly identical cup, see Christie's Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art sale November 3, 2009, lot #105. Provenance: Duk Soo Palace, Seoul Korea 1951. Estate of Lionel Hayes, a sargent in the 10th Marine Division during the Korean War, when the Marines stormed the Duk Soo Palace and smashed the 100,000-man Red Invasion Army.
