Notes/Literature: When Hitler rose to power in Germany and began his Kulturprogramme in 1933, declaring avant garde art as degenerate, Kollwitz was forbidden to exhibit in Germany and her works were removed from public collections. This exhibition was curated by Jere Abbot and, opening on Armistice Day, declared its purpose as opposition to war.
