Signature and obituary of Air Commodore John Marlow Thompson CBE DSO DFC* AFC No. III Squadron Battle of Britain. In 1942 he led the Hal Far Wing in the air battles over Malta and ended WWII a credited 'ace' with 8 enemy aircraft confirmed destroyed plus a string of 'damaged,' 'possible,' 'probable,' and 'unconfirmed' claims. During the hectic air fighting in August 1940 he led 'Treble III' in a head-on attack on a wave of 70+ German bombers that is now regarded as 'Epic' in the Battle of Britain. A great fighter leader.
