Description
Men at their arts- Two are signed and numbered limited series.
Dr. Ferdie Pacheco (1927-2017) was one of Miami's most celebrated and eclectic personalities- born in Tampa, son of a pharmacist, he was drawn to medicine from an early age, and was acutely aware of the complex and colorful world of Florida's melting pot culture. Decades later, he became the personal physician and cornerman to Muhammad Ali, earning him the nickname "The Fight Doctor"- until Pacheco urged Ali to retire, fearing for the toll that fighting injuries had done. Years later, Ali would confess to him- "you were right". Pacheco's career spanned 50 years, during which he offered medical care to the impoverished of Overtown, Miami, effortlessly translated Spanish boxing matches and offering color commentary for NBC, was a published author, and of course, painted. Today, Pacheco is remembered as one of Miami's most unique and color lithographers, with influences as far flung as Norman Rockwell to Diego Rivera, and as ever, a keen, loving, and often wry eye for the curious sopa de vida that is South Florida. Lot includes "Take Ten", an early 1976 litho on linen texture stock, signed, 65 of 100; "The Director", 1978, on semi-gloss, signed, 83 of 500; and "The Sports Photographer", from 1978, on semi-gloss litho stock.
