Description
Papers from 1817-1867. Includes his Pennsylvania commission from 1811 signed by Governor Wm. Findlay (Major separating of paper at folds and ink burns.) HIs commission to second Lt. US Corps of actively signed by John C. Calhoun, Feb. 1, 1820 as Secretary of War with instructions to report to Mobile, Alabama. (Separation at fold on autograph). Hand drawn detailed map of Fort Gasden on the Apalachalola River in Florida circa 1820. Fort was in use 1818-1821. Pencil drawing with ink notations showing buildings, batterys, etc. As an artillery officer Lt. Hutter would have drawn this map to show gun placements, etc. Fold lines/some paper loss. Map measures 12 1/2" x 15 1/2". Letter from W.L. Marcy Secretary of War dated Sept. 23, 1847 promoting Hutter to Major of the 1st US Regiment in Mexico City. Usual fold lines. 1847 pay voucher for Major Hutter including all his pay for 1847 and his two slaves. Prepared by Major Hutter as US Army paymaster (usual fold lines/minor separation). 1867 voucher for the year 1861 and covering money Major Hutter used on behalf of US until April 30th, 1861 when Major George Hutter resigned in April 1861 to retire to his home in Lynchburg, VA "Sandusky" His 3 sons were all confederate officers but he was not. Sandusky was General Hunter's headquarters during the Battle of Lynchburg and is open as a Museum operated by a foundation and owned by University of Lynchburg. Usual fold lines/staining.
