American Bank Note Company (ABN) Engraved Steel Die Plate Titled "Gold Mining"1880" Rare Historical Vignette
1880-Dated, Unique Original Hand-Engraved Steel Die Plate for Printing a Decorative Historical Scene Titled: "Gold Mining"1880." American Bank Note Company (ABN), N.Y., Choice Extremely Fine.
This unique Hand-Engraved Steel Die Plate measures 5.5 x 3.25 inches, being produced for Imprints of the American Bank Note Company, New York being a decorative historical vignette. There is a wonderful contemporary Gold Mining scene with six men working deep in a gold mine with their picks and shovels. The impression's theme would typically be used on such items as Bonds, Stock Certificates or the like. There is an engraved identification number: V-44726 (C-63 crossed out). This Steel Die itself is deep steel-gray in color with tinges of golden and blue natural overtones. Ex: Stack's sale of the Old West & Franklinton Collections, August 2006, Lot 1011, where it realized $1,725 (no tag present); and American Bank Note Company Archives. A wonderful Gold Mining related historical western item.
