Title: Stalking the Nightmare
Author: Harlan Ellison - Harlan Jay Ellison was an American writer, known for his prolific and influential work in New Wave speculative fiction, and for his outspoken, combative personality. Robert Bloch, the author of Psycho, described Ellison as "the only living organism I know whose natural habitat is hot water".

His published works include more than 1,700 short stories, novellas, screenplays, comic book scripts, teleplays, essays, and a wide range of criticism covering literature, film, television, and print media. Some of his best-known work includes the Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever", his A Boy and His Dog cycle, and his short stories "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" and " 'Repent, Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman". He was also editor and anthologist for Dangerous Visions (1967) and Again, Dangerous Visions (1972). Ellison won numerous awards, including multiple Hugos, Nebulas, and Edgars.

Book Details: Among the scarcest of sci-fi collectibles, here we have the tightly limited signed and lettered Grimoire edition of Stalking the Nightmare by Harlan Ellison. Lettered “Jâ€, one of only 40 rare copies, the book is bound in full black Oasis Morocco goatskin. The cover bears a gilt debossed facsimile signature and a design by Jane Mackenzie of the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, which wears Harlan Ellison’s face. The book is contained in a grimoire box, which is cast in a synthetic resin called Uncast Three, from original linden wood carvings by Steve Kirk. The box was then hand-finished with intentional irregularities in surface and finish to produce a "stressed antique" appearance. According to information presented in the back of the book, the carvings on the faces of the box represent scenes from the stories in the book: top face illustrates "Grail" and incorporates the publisher's logo and the sculptor's chop, hinge face illustrates "Final Trophy," lock face illustrates "Tracking Level," top end illustrates "Tiny Ally," bottom end illustrates "Invasion Footnotes" and the base illustrates "Visionaryâ€. The grimoire box is lined in black Siloma quilted velvet and has antiqued brass fittings, lock, and hasp. The box is signed by the author and by the box sculptor on a card inserted in a brass frame which is affixed to the inside of the box's lid. Additionally, the colophon page in the rear of the book is signed "Harlan Ellison". The foreword was written by Stephen King.
Condition / Notes: This scarce sci-fi collectible shows beautifully, in like new condition. The binding and text block are sound. Text is clear and crisp on clean pages. The box also shows very well with minimal indications of age/wear. There are no keys included with this set. The box measures approximately 7.75" x 11" x 3.25".
