A rarely-encountered example dating to the Safavid Dynasty. The bowl of deep hemispherical form, wrought of intricately-patterned Persian wootz, set with a pair of plumeholders, an adjustable nasal and elegant top spike, all finely inlaid in gold. Superbly chiseled with eight cartouches containing inscriptions, warriors, kings, hunting beasts and flowers, with a broad band of flowering vines inlaid in gold around the rim, supporting fine inlaid gold panels throughout. To the right of one plume tube appears the chiseled date 924 (1527/28 c.e.) commemorating the year in which one of the greatest Safavid shahs, Shah Tahmasp I, at the age of 13, shot his regent, Div Sultan Rumlu with an arrow. A few months later, Shah Tahmasp defeated the Uzbeks at Jam. Retains its original camail of fine iron rings with geometrical patterns worked in brass rings bordered in long, tapering termini.
