Description
This is a very fine old and field used carved wooden sculpture of a Female ancestor with heavy reddish mineral pigment patina and a most interesting "hidden" area of sap/tar and inset beads and glass. The sculpture of a proud female adorned with glass beads and old animal hide garments is also accented on the forehead with some inset beads, as well as an area over her chest or heart of beads hidden under her clothing.Luena ( Lwena) peoples, Angola, Africa. The sculpture shows much handling and wear, and is a wonderful old example. The figure measures 13.5 inches on its professional custom display stand.Ex~ collection Jacques (Jack) Gansler, Virginia, USA. From 1997-2001, he served as the Under Secretary of Defense at the Department of Defense under President Bill Clinton. *(The last picture is of Mr Gansler at a Pentagon briefing.) He was also at Professor at Harvard, University of Virginia and University of Maryland.
