Description
Rare Rookwood Aventurine glaze scenic vase done by Lorinda Epply in 1921. Pictured are tall trees which appear to be laden with flowers all under cascades of Aventurine glaze which gives one the impression of a soft, glowing sunset. The interior of the vase is done in a rich blue color. Marks include the Rookwood logo, date, shape number 907 B, an original Rookwood Showroom paper label (difficult to read) and the incised monogram of the artist. Height 14 1/4 inches. Faint crazing. For some reason, Epply seems to have decorated many of the Aventurine glaze pieces at Rookwood during the early 1920’s. Many were kept at Rookwood and were not offered for sale. Some (this vase included) stayed with the company and only left Mt. Adams to go home with owners of the company. Some of the more spectacular pieces have as a bonus feature, a scenic component.
