Item Details
Description
KODAK RETINA IIA (Type 016) with original case
This camera was owned and used by Roger N. Adermann (with his personal ownership tag) who was stationed in Korea during the Korean war in 1954. While being stationed in Korea, Marilyn Monroe had traveled to Japan on her honeymoon with Joe DiMaggio. This honeymoon included a solo trip Marilyn Monroe made to the Korean peninsula. During her time spent in Korea Marilyn traveled to military bases where she entertained a crowd of nearly 100,000 people. Roger Adermann was in the front row during one of Monroe's poses with this Kodak camera and proceeded to snap various images of Marilyn which was kept private in Roger's estate over various decades. This story is verified in Life Magazine in the March 1st, 1954 issue which features an article about Monroe and her trip. The black and white image of Roger and his camera in front of Monroe is also part of the National Archives. Included with this historical camera is a copy of Life Magazine featuring the event. Please see images showing Roger in 1954 and also at an older age. Links to Roger's obituary and other documented images of Marilyn's visit to Korea:
