Description
Heavy impasto oil on canvas. 19 1/4 x 15 1/4 in. (canvas), 26 1/4 x 22 1/4 in. (framed). Ann Mittleman began her artistic career as a a sculptor, studying with Robert Laurent. She soon turned to painting and has studied with Tschacbasov, Philip Evergood and Lewis Daniel. Extensive travel has taken her to all parts of the world, but New York and New York City, in Rockland County, have remained her homes and most stimulated her work. She has had seven one-woman shows, beside a traveling museum show for 29 months. She has exhibited in many group shows, including the Whitney Museum, and in museums in Berlin, Germany and Tokyo. She has had her work in the lending service of the Museum of Modern Art, New York City.Her work is part of the permanent collection of 22 museums in the United States and 2 in Israel.She is a member of the National Association of Women Artists, besides other organizations,is also included in Who's Who in American Art, and Who's Who in American Women.She has been included in the Modern Museum Lending Library, and is in the permanent collection of the following museums :Smith College Museum in Northampton, MA; Seattle Museum; Miami Museum; Jewish Museum; Birmingham Museum; Everhart Museum in Scranton, PA; University of Illinois Museum; Zanesville Art Institute in Ohio; Art Association of Richmond; Hickory Museum in North Carolina; Florence Museum of Art in North Carolina; Isaac Delgado Museum of Art in Louisiana; New York University Museum; Evansville Museum in Indiana; Lowe Art Gallery in Coral Gables, Florida; Tweed Gallery at Uiversity of Minnesota; University of Georgia; Sholem Asch Museum in Bat Yam, Israel; Safed Museum in Israel; Sheldon Swope Museum in Terre Haute, Indiana; Witte Museum in San Antonio; The Menninger Foundation and Art Museum in Topeka, KS; Queens College Museum; Norfolk Museum.She is included in the "Archives of American Art" and has recently been elected a "Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts" in London.
