ANNENKOV YURI: (1889-1974) Also known as Georges Annenkov. Russian Artist, mostly known for his book illustrations and portraits. He also worked for theatre and cinema. Maxim Gorky´s book, Samovar (1917) was his first work as a book designer. Annekov went into exile in France in 1924 and in the 1950´s he collaborated with the magazine of the association anti-communist `Paix et Liberté´ (''Peace and Freedom''). A good A.L.S., `G. Annenkov´, one page, folio, n.p., 18th September 1958, in French. Annenkov states in part `My artistic debut was very happy because I was very very young..´ Further referring to the work which made him famous `Portrait of Leon Trotsky. But it wasn´t pure Art, because it was done based on nature: Trotsky posed over a week. It is true that Leonardo da Vinci spent 4 years to paint his Gioconda without finishing it (according to his own confession)´.
