North America, United States, ca. 1840 to 1900 CE. A lovely pair of antique photographs, each depicting a singular female figure. The first photograph, a daguerreotype, displays a three-quarters portrait of a seated woman wearing a plaid dress and a ring on her left pinky finger, her hair done up in in a two-part bun around her head; the photograph itself is set in an ovular brass mat with a protective glass panel and a perimeter brass preserver in a leather-wrapped wooden frame. The second photograph is an ambrotype of a young girl, shown seated in full portrait, with her one hand clasping the other and one elbow resting on a linen-draped side table; the photograph itself is covered by an embossed brass mat with a protective glass cover panel and set within a similarly-embossed brass perimeter frame which holds everything in place with four flaps folded around the back. An interesting study group for anyone who appreciates early photography. Size (daguerreotype): 3.625" W x 3.125" H (9.2 cm x 7.9 cm); size (ambrotype): 2.75" W x 3.25" H (7 cm x 8.3 cm).

The daguerreotype has a missing front case cover, and the ambrotype does not have a case. Daguerreotype has some age marks within the glass panel, but photograph is still intact and visible; wooden frame has minor loss to wood and minor fading and loss to leather covering. Ambrotype has loss to reverse black coating and part of actual female image, but is still visible; brass frame has minor wear and aging but still gorgeous.
