(Thought Factory, 1977) An extremely rare original painting of the classic DC Comics superhero "Batman”. The artwork features a more realistic depiction of the character at top, and a more traditional comic-panel style representation at the bottom. This original artwork was created and used in a popular series of collectible posters that were marketed by a partnership between Thought Factory and Bill Wallen, with this poster artwork coming from Wallen's personal collection. Notably, renowned poster artist Drew Struzan worked on stages of this dynamic poster including its early conceptual designs. The artwork is composed of primarily airbrush and acrylic, and the lower-left corner features Struzan's stylized gestalt "S" logo which pays respect to Struzan for his contributions towards the creation of the final poster. Measuring 33.5"x22.25" on sturdy art board, the original painting is in very fine condition with little wear. There are a few thin creases in the artwork that are difficult to see, however these small creases can actually be seen in the final poster, and did not occur after the artwork's initial use. The Thought Factory superhero posters were very popular when they debuted in 1977, with surviving examples becoming difficult to find. This is the first time the original artwork for these exceptional posters has ever been offered for public sale.
