Item Details
Description
(1983) An original painting by renowned comics artist John Severin for a cover of Cracked magazine. Severin was one of the founding cartoonists for MAD magazine when it debuted in 1952, and is well-known for helping shape the humor and style of Cracked during his 45-years working for the magazine. This original cover artwork was used for issue 192 in January of 1983. As the first issue of Cracked to be released in 1983, Severin chose to parody the wildly successful "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" with his cover design. The painting shows Cracked's mascot, Sylvester P. Smythe, delivering a pizza to a planet full of aliens that resemble E.T. One alien's glowing chest and finger are made to resemble pizza sauce and cheese, which makes Sylvester nervous. Accomplished in acrylic, ink, and colored pencil on art board, this painting measures 22"x16". The condition is very good with some edge-wear from use.
