Set of four Mid Century double-handled cups and five small plates [saucers], marked "Franciscan Ware" [the trademark of Gladding, McBean & Co., Los Angeles, California]. This particular mark was in use 1940-1947. Coral Beige monochrome glaze outside, cream-white glaze inside the cups and handles.

This set is an early experimental design prior to the introduction of modernist Franciscan Ware streamline in the 1950s.

The cups are 4" x 4" [c. 10.2cm]; 1.3/4" tall [c.4.4cm]; c. 6" wide including both handles. The plates [saucers] are 6" x 6" [c. 15.2cm]; one cup has a tiny chip at the rim [see picture #9], no hairlines; very good condition.
