Possibly the first Chinese-American children's books both written and illustrated by an Asian author, though most of the characters were children in China rather than the US.
Liang was a noted Chinese-born architect, an early protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright who helped design the United Nations Headquarters. He lived in both China and the US during much of his life, finally settling in California, where, in retirement, he became a pottery artist.
