Description
The Nanking Shop at Bloomingdale's. This artifact is part of the Ming porcelain cargo of a Chinese trading vessel which sank circa 1640. It was discovered and salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher in 1893 outside Malaysia in the South China Sea and was sold at Christie's Amsterdam in 1984/1985. The Cargo is dated to be from 1620-1640, the transitional Ming period. The cargo was probably bound for Malacca and the South Asian trade. 9.5" Wide.
