TITLE/CONTENT OF MAP: 'NORTH AMERICA, XlV., Florida'
The map shows the reservation demarcated for the Seminole Indians in Treaty of Payne's Landing in 1833, the year before the map was engraved, which gave the native American Tribe three years to move to land west of the Mississippi. Individual Seminole settlements are marked and named on the map, along with Indian paths. Also marked are three Spanish land grants - land granted to Fleming, Lafayette and Delespine. Under Spanish rule, land grants were offered to settlers beginning in 1790, to induce settlement of the colony. The United States agreed to honor these land grants when it gained control of the territory in 1821, provided that they were shown to be valid.

DATE PRINTED: This map was originally published by Baldwin & Cradock in 1834; this date is printed on the map. This edition of the map was printed and published by Chapman & Hall in 1844.
