George V Sterling Silver-Mounted Dresser Mirror

hallmarked London, 1912-1913, by William Comyns & Son, in the neoclassical taste, rectangular with leaf-and-dart edging, the conforming crest with an oval medallion and surmounted by a tazza and Vitruvian scrolls, fitted with a beveled rectangular mirror and velvet-covered easel back.

A handsome piece. The scrolled cresting is slightly bent in spots, but no breaks, losses or repairs noted. The mirrored plate has a few very slight scratches. The frame shows some light signs of wear but is in quite good shape. The purple velvet covering the back is worn, with the nap worn bald in some spots, particularly on the stand, but it is fully intact with no tears or rips. The base of the stand has a gilt- stamped retailer's mark of Edwards & Sons, London. Hallmarked (on the lower edge of the frame) with: 1) the sterling lion passant; 2) the London leopard's head; 3) the date letter "r" for 1912-1913; and 4) the "WC" maker's mark of William Comyns & Son.
