Pair of German Silver "Jousting Knights" Table Garnitures
first quarter 20th century, by Ludwig Neresheimer, Hanau, .800 silver, the combatants depicted in full armor with articulated visor, holding a lance and on a rearing armored horse rampant, the canted rectangular base with ferns, frogs and lizards above a reticulated foliate scroll plinth.

Condition
No dents or repairs noted; some wear to the details consistent with age. The "ferns" on the base of
each show some losses, approximately a third on one and half on the other. The "lances" of each screw in
to the handle, with the threads stripped, loose and detachable on one, glued on the other. The plumed
crests of both knights have a small break/loss on one side of the central plume. One knight is lacking the
right stirrup and strap. The knights' faces are carved of an off-white material: bone, ivory or meerschaum
(its small size and relative inaccessibility prohibit exact identification). Each piece marked (on the base)
with "Germany" and the Neresheimer "n" trademark, and pseudo-marks "13" and a pyr.
