[xxx], 595, [4], 96, [22] pp. (4to) Contemporary speckled calf sewn on cords with gilt tooled spine and edges. One of the Delphin editions, a collection of classic works, printed in Latin, produced from the 1670's and intended to be a comprehensive collection.
"On the Meaning of Words" features an engraving of Arion and the Dolphin, and the inscription "in usum serenissimi Delphini." These volumes of the Greek and Roman classics were created for Louis le Grand Dauphin, heir of Louis XIV.
Condition
Covers scuffed, scratched and rubbed; extremities rubbed and missing some leather; spine chipped, leather at head of spine peeling away; interior ink markings, offsetting, and foxing; overall very good.
