[Bible] Leaf from the First Jensen Bible. Nicolai Jenson, Venice, 1476. Approx. 12 x 8” printed on paper, double columns (left one with 52 lines of text) plus headline in Gothic type, with 3 ornamented initials; 1 in red, 1 in blue & red, 1 in gilt, blue, and red. In 20th century frame, with label on verso. The first Bible from the famous press of Nicolas Jenson, French printer from whose Venetia press came nearly one hundred of the finest books produced in the fifteenth century. When Jenson issued a second edition of the Latin Bible in 1479, Pope Sixtus IV conferred upon him the honorary title of Count Palatine. Hain 3061. Copinger 28.
