Provenance/Additional Information: A Vintage RARE Mammy, Aunt Jemima Chalk String Holder. Signed "WE NEEDS" - with 9 peg holes shopping list with spaces for 7 extra pegs. Has wire hanger for hanging. Rare green painted dress. Exceptional surface & patina. Signed on the back "A&P" - most likely a premium for A&P Grocery Stores. She has an open pocket in apron to hold matches or extra pegs. String Holders were used in Country Stores & Kitchens to tie packages, and during the 1940's most homes in America had a string holder of some sort. Wonderful Black Americana & Black Memorabilia collectible.
