Description
**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero/Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A skillfully carved and string-cut green stone celt depicting a kneeling female figure with hands placed upon her knees and an elongated head meticulously delineated with facial features. The perforated eye was likely used for suspending the piece. In addition to the marvelous rendering, the inherent beauty of the stone with its blue-green hues and seafoam green inclusions is undeniable. Size: 3.625" H (9.2 cm); 4.375" H (11.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
