Provenance: The Artist. Allan Stone Gallery, New York
Like Joseph Cornell, Rauschenberg and Pop artists of the 1960s, Barry Cohen used household wares as grist for art. An unorthodox master of assemblage, he charges flotsam and jetsam with his acute affinity for bygone times. Cohen received his MFA from Yale University in 1960 and held teaching positions at Yale University and Silvermine College of Fine Arts. He had six solo exhibitions with Allan Stone Gallery, and his work is in numerous prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, American Folk Art Museum, and New York Public Library in New York City, the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, and Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven. The artist lived, worked and died in New York City.
