Description
An extremely rare bicolor faience statue of Nefertem, Late Period, c. 664 - 30 BC, depicted seated on a decorated supporting a large Eye of Horus against his chest. He wears a long wig surmounted by his characteristic headdress which consists of a blue lotus topped by plumes, a counterpoise from a manet collar on either side. His throne is decorated on one side with rows of uraei in relief and on the back is a depiction of Nefertum’s mother, Sekhmet, or perhaps Nefertem himself in his rare depiction as a lion-headed deity. H: 6 ½ in. (16.5 cm). Well-preserved with strong light blue-green glaze remaining with black wig, beard and on details of the Wedjat. A superb example! Ex Northern California private collection.
