Description
A Romano-Egyptian terracotta figure of Priapus, c. 1st - 2nd Century AD, the god stands between branches, bearded and wearing modius, his hands are on his hips where he opens his robes to expose his genitals; small loop at back. 5 1/2 x 3 1/2 in (13.9 x 6.8 cm). The penis was intended to be able to slide out from the inside of the figure, to become erect, and still remains moveable! Nice detailed with remnants of white slip and light deposits. Ex Cheshire, UK private collection.
