Published by R.H. Laurie No. 53 Fleet Street London 15th Octr. 1822. Drawn from the large chart by John Purdy. Engraved by Geo. Wigzell Senr. With retailer's ticket R. Ackermann, 101 Strand, London. A famous publisher and retailer of colorplate books. Worth Noting: Bhering Str. (sic) "icy ocean impenetrable barrier of ice from shore to shore in 1778/79" [proving that Asian natives did not need a land connection to reach North America.] British North America, Canada, from Ft. Wm. to Quebec called "CABOTIA" west of Hudson's Bay called HUDSONIA. The Quarrellers Indians were north of Arctic Circle in the west. U.S. Northwest shown as British territory (though we claimed north to 54.40). S. Blas at mouth of Miss. R. "La Purissima" is only named mission in CA. "San Antonio" and "Sta Fee" only towns named in western U.S. "New Madrid" only town named on Miss R. other than New Orleans. Chatham Bay shown on tip of Florida. Austrian Stas. and E. Turkey border. Cute small Geo. IV world map. Handsome period pocket map of the earth. Cover hinges cracked.
