Steuben computer award from RCA, 1961.////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////Apparently RCA,competing with IBM for computer dominance, made three 301 computers for Chase bank in 1961, and the CEO of Chase,George Champion, received them along with lot 8 in this auction, a Steuben made engraved owl plate with a sterling silver plaque, celebrating the event. From the Estate of Paul Hunn, sold by the Paul Hunn Revocable Trust to David Killen Gallery in 2018 in NYC.Paul Hunn was a banker at Manufacturers Hanover Trust for many years before it was absorbed into or bought out by Chase Bank which became JP Morgan Chase. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////(From the NY Times May 26 1961):"R.C.A. DEDICATES PLANT IN FLORIDA; Computer Made in Facility Delivered Ahead of Time:---PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla., May 25 -- The first 301 computer system of the Radio Corporation of America to be made here was turned over two months ahead of schedule today to George Champion, chairman of the Chase Manhattan Bank."/////////////////////////////////////An interesting souvenir of the history of computer manufacturing.The owl crystal plate is removable and is signed "Steuben". 10" dia.
