Description
**First Time At Auction**
Ancient Near East, Sumeria or Babylon, ca. 2nd to 1st millennium BCE. A pair of charming pottery toys in the form of wide-bodied quadrupeds - probably sheep - with applied, bulging eyes, small ears on the sides of their heads, and short tails. Mesopotamian children were well-loved and had a plethora of toys, made from a variety of materials, just like children today. These toys were also made according to a child's age; these, with their sturdy, simple forms, were probably for a child out of toddlerhood but not much older. Size: 3.45" W x 1.95" H (8.8 cm x 5 cm)
Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
