Description
**Originally Listed At $300**
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Jalisco, Ameca type, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. A large-scale Jalisco seated warrior figure with red and cream painted details over gray slip, holding an intimidating staff-shaped club with both hands (and nicely modeled fingers) across his chest, wearing a traditional crested helmet and barrel-shaped armor (perhaps a form that inspired the term 'barrel chested'), and addressing the viewer with a no-nonsense, "take no prisoners" attitude. His determined visage is finely delineated with almond-shaped eyes, a pronounced long and straight nose with stylized nose ring, angular ears, a rounded chin, and thin open mouth. A wonderfully-fierce personage from the ancients of West Mexico. Size: 6" L x 4.375" W x 9.55" H (15.2 cm x 11.1 cm x 24.3 cm).
Provenance: private San Francisco, California, USA collection
All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
