Description
Made by a highly skilled sculptor with three tiers of elaborately detailed story-telling reliefs - to the top are three lunettes depicting God, Christ and the Trinity; to the center are three female figures - one, "The Death of Hollorfernes" holds a sword in one hand and a severed head in another; one, "Luckretia in Romerin" holds a sword to her own chest (possibly Lucretia Borgia); one labeled "Justice" holds scales in one hand and a sword in another and includes the creation date 1575. Bottom tier show scenes from the explosion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden Pewter lid. Several repairs made mid 20th century. Comes with a newspaper clipping from 1942 with details of the tankard's history and repairs.
