Title: Jimmy Stevens Polychrome Carved Wooden Folk Art Mermaid

Description: "This wonderful polychrome folk art carved wooden mermaid with moving arms was done by Georgetown, Maine woodcarver Jimmy Stevens (19th/20th c). Stevens lived his entire life in the Georgetown area, known for his fiddle playing as well, but always carved dolls and other figures with moving arms and legs “to keep himself amused”. He also tried bas-relief carving later in life, and his works are very collectible. This unsigned mermaid figure has moving arms that are attached with rope, and the piece is mounted to a custom wrought iron hanger. A great piece of Down East Maine collectible folk art. "
