A rare & fine vintage Northwest Coast carved and painted cedar wood mask by Oscar Matilpi 1933-99, of the Kwakwaka\\\\\\\'wakw Nation, a legendary carver.This particular mask by this master is a cut above those few that come on the market. Earlier than most, wrapped in a cloth and trunk stored here for 34 years, it was already with nice natural age on its exposed cedar when purchased, that collector said that he got it from the artist in the early70\\\\\\\'s. This example is flawless, never cleaned, never waxed, no touch-ups, cracks, nicks or scratches. The carving is particularly crisp, the paints with no fade.
