Minewski left home at fourteen, joined a circus, and later worked as a sign painter and a logger,
all the time pursuing his art interests.
While recovering from wounds suffered in World War II (Burma, fighting with Merrill's Marauders),
he began studying with Hans Hofmann. Minewski's early works are realistic.
His later works could be characterized as expressionist realism.
In 1966 he was appointed professor of art at State University of New York at New Paltz.
Painting locations include Monhegan Island, Maine.
He was married to artist Natalie Minewski.
