Description
Watercolor of Barbados. 21 1/2 x 19 in. (sight), 33 1/2 x 30 1/2 in. (framed). Born in Superior, Wisconsin on July 5, 1893, Wilmot Heitland, while based in NYC, painted along the California coast during the 1920s. Heitland was also a master watercolorist - his paintings of Barbados rival the directness and vigor of Winslow Homer. Both his illustrations and exhibition watercolors won many awards, and his work is represented in several museums, including the Brooklyn Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, and Philadelphia Museum School of Art. Moved to Sarasota, Florida from Philidephia, Pennsyvania in 1963. He died in Florida in July 1969.
