Here is a very folksy watercolor on cardboard painting of a Country Manor House in a well-manicured landscape. There is a line of trees in the distance, and a rock (?) or plaque in the foreground with the initials “I. L. N.” (or “L. I. N.”) and “June 10, 1742.” I do not know what either the initials or the date refers to. And there appears to be a signature in the lower right corner: “Bu?.” Despite the 1742 date (if it is a date), the drawing appears to date to the 1930s, and it is most likely English. The almost “Tudor” style house does not appear to be American and certainly, it has the appearance of an English landscape.; The little painting measures 6 ½” x 5 ¼” and is nicely framed and double-matted in a contemporary wooden frame (overall frame size is 11 5/8” x 10 ¾”. (There is no indication as to where it might have been framed, either.) Condition is fine to very fine: there are no splits, tears, creases, etc. in the painting, but there is some light edge soiling (left edge and lower right). The lawn is a very pleasing shade of green and sets off the white and gray of the house very nicely. A charming little watercolor!
