Description
lm Description: The Original Kaztenjammer Kids Hans and Fritz, the circa 1920s poster for “a cartoon musical comedy with pretty girls and fun galore” (“Soft Pedal! Dod gast it! Dey are sleeping, maybe!”; “Book and Lyrics By David M. Wolff”). Note that the Katzenjammer Kids was created in 1897 by Rudolph Dirks for the Sunday supplement of William Randolph Hearst’s New York Journal. It was based on Wilhelm Busch’s Max and Moritz and became one of the longest living Sunday comic strips in American history. The series was enormously popular with children, but it had no greater fan than Hearst himself. Note that we don’t know if this poster is for an animated movie or for a live action movie, and it is even quite possible it is actually for a traveling stage show!
