Matching pair of small hand-potted and -painted Chinese export dishes for the American trade. The color of under glaze cobalt is a nice dark smoky blue. Two heavily potted porcelain dishes with a nice dark cobalt blue. They are painted in the early willow pattern of pagodas, willow tree, bridge, water, and mountains. The painting is quick and almost impressionistic. They have broad rim bands with a scallop pattern. The glaze is very smooth to the touch and still very shiny. There are no marks or labels. MEASUREMENTS 6 1/8” (15.6 cm) diameter x 7/8” (2.2 cm) tall. Weighs 14.6 oz (415 g) CONDITION They have rim chips but no cracks, or breaks. They both ring true. They have kiln flaws like uneven painting on the rim borders, black spots, dimples, and pin holes. There is slight wear to the central wells from age and use. They still look bright and entire. A fun pair of impressionistic small plates to add age and substance to your blue and white collection.
